In this busy stage you attach numerous plant-on details to the inner and outer sides of the starboard mandible before adding a small section of side frame (SF-10) and a small section of plating (SP-17) that form the mount for the mandible’s headlight, which you test and install. There is a lot of gluing to do so make sure you have enough adhesive standing by before you get started.

    Parts needed:
Sprue holding 12 identical items supplied with Issue 78
Sprue holding 8 items supplied with Issue 78
Sprue holding 13 items supplied with Issue 79
Sprue holding 14 items supplied with Issue 79
Side frame SF-10 (mandible) supplied with Issue 79
(Note that SP-17 is supplied on the sprue holding 14 items)
2 countersunk screws supplied with Issue 79
LED headlight supplied with Issue 79
    2 short brass-coloured self-tapping screws

    Tools and other items needed
If you do everything that is described in the Stage 79 Assembly section of the magazine you will need the following:
Screwdriver supplied with Issue 2, or similar
    Side cutters or similar
    Craft knife
Needle file or fine sanding pads or sticks
    Cutting board
Cyanoacrylate instant glue, also known as superglue
    Cocktail sticks

    Adding the inner details
When you remove the 12 identical parts from the smaller of the two sprues you can easily reach one of the attachment points of each of the parts with cutters. The other attachment point is less easy to reach so you might have to remove each of these identical details from the sprue by first cutting the accessible attachment point and then carefully twisting the detail with your fingers until the plastic gives and it comes off the sprue. After removal tidy up any unwanted plastic with a file or sanding stick. Take care when you have to remove plastic from the area between the holes in the 12 identical details. A thin file is needed or one with a narrow end. You might find a bit of plastic between the pins on one or more of the 12 identical details stops the detail seating properly on detail (1) or (2). If this is the case, carefully file it off. Apart from this, the details you add to the inside of the mandible should all go on easily.

    Adding the outer details
Some of the parts are really very small, but the details for the outer side of the mandible should go on easily. Just remember that if a test fit reveals that a part is not held neatly in place by its pins, tabs or whatever to hold it in its correct orientation for a few seconds until the bond forms when you stick it down.
Details (3), (4), (5) and (6) are particularly small so be very careful if you have to remove excess plastic from them. Only the lightest of touches is needed to clean up (5) and (6). Watch that you do not inadvertently cut off the end of (10) when you remove it from the sprue and hold (11) parallel with the sides until the glue has set. Detail (19) might need a bit more filing or trimming where it joined the sprue than some of the others. Hold (20) and (21) in position while the glue sets so that they are aligned with the sides of the mandible.

    Adding the headlight
This should not be a challenge. Make sure that the countersunk holes of SF-10 are facing outwards before you screw it down. Remember to check the LED before you glue it in position.

    Tidy up and store
Put the assembly away somewhere safe and store the parts supplied with this issue but not used this time back in the parts pack for Issue 79 so you know where to find them.
